Dan Nichols (South Mountain College – Head Basketball Coach speaks to the campers)

By Ty Jacobs (Area Codes Basketball & Mullen’s Scouting)

It was a great showing of athleticism and brains at the 6th Annual Scholar Athlete Academic Showcase as tons of high level players and with high GPAs took the court in front of local scouts.

Here are a few of the standouts I was able to see in action:

Ibrahima Camara, 6 FT 4 – Camara is an absolute athletic freak. He plays with an endless amount of effort and runs the floor each and every possession which usually ends in a monstrous dunk. He has a nice feel of how to use his body around the rim. Excels in jumping into the passing lanes from the low post.

Isaiah Freeney – 2021

Isaiah Freeney, 5 ft 11- Freeney Is a scoring machine from long range who also has the ability to distribute at will. Freeney seems to have a on switch that he hits whenever his team needs a timely bucket. He always seems to the right play in when pushing it in transition.

Isaiah Wilson 6 ft 1- Straight Athlete. Isaiah is a terror in transition and gets to the rim at will. He has the ability to blow by his defenders while finishing over bigs. He plays with high intensity that seems to ramp up his teammates.

Jalen Johnson – 2019

Tyrese Rogers 6 ft 1-  Pure shooter with unlimited range. He showed the ability to score from deep off the dribble or spotted up.

Elijah Johnson 5 ft 9- Elijah showed nothing but heart the whole camp. Being one of the smallest players, he didn’t back down and consistently took on the challenge of guarding the opposing teams best guard.

Chase Courtney – 2019

Dana DJ Hawkins 6 ft 6-  Dana thrived in transition. He showed his all around by finishing at the basket and knocking down open shots. He showed the ability to create for others wile occasionally trying to put defenders in the rim.

Zion Wyatt 5 Ft 10- Zion is lighting quick.  Crafty could be Zion’s middle name. He plays with absolutely no fear and shows a tremendous ability to finish in the lane against bigs. Zion gave every guard who guarded him a tough out.

Cory Barnes 5 ft 11- Barnes showed lead guard ability. He is very shifty with the ball and uses that ability to create for others. When not creating, he showed the ability to finish in the lane with array of floaters and lay ups.

 Top 40 All Star Game

Jarren Neal 6 ft – Jarren lived in the passing lane creating easy buckets for himself on the defensive end. Jarren showed his athleticism when finishing with creative finishes in the lane. What stood out was his toughness as he received a bloody nose and had to be forced by staff to stop playing.

Jalen Johnson 6 ft 6- Johnson was the best shooter in camp. Standing at 6ft 6 he was also one of the best athletes. Johnson plays the game at such a smooth pace and scores with ease. Jalen uses his length and athleticism to get to finish above the rim and rebound at a high rate.

Top 20 All Star Game

Chase Courtney 6 ft 10- At 6ft 10 Chase’s length and activity cause a problem. He is a lot to handle in the paint and showed tremendous drop step game when given the opportunity.

Mekhi Mason 5 ft 11- Mason showed the ability to finish in the lane with a number of different crafty moves. He had an almost unstoppable euro step that he used to finish and create near the basket.
